How to start a coffee shop in a commuter suburb and not to go bust?

Oleksii Mostovyi shares his views whether he wants one more location on Pozniaky district and is it worth to follow one’s ‘entrepreneurial feeling’.

Already two years when Oleksii has launched his ‘coffee pet-project’. Though he has opened his coffee shop on Pozniaky district far from promenade places and big business centers, he is quite satisfied with how things are going.

Oleksii was looking for coffee franchise with as simple terms for opening as it could be and full package of services. Besides, businessman had his own premises on Pozniaky district. Thus, it was quite important that coffee shop format and pricing fit to the specifics of this district. Finally, he chose to go with AROMA KAVA and got his money worth.

The opening process was not very difficult. The biggest issue was staff recruitment. However, after a while they managed to build a solid team.

‘In 2019 we saw that return on investment met our expectations and realized it was worth opening. Nonetheless, in 2020 matters made worse by the lockdowns. It was impossible to predict. This situation forced to close our locations fully’.

Oleksii believes there are three important elements that are fundamental for a successful coffee shop: location, team and meet AROMA KAVA high quality standards.

‘Everyone should be result-oriented: from a trainee to the owner. It is also important to set high requirements to the quality of drinks, premises cleanliness and meet quality standards of customer service. We are located in a commuter suburb, thus we have quite a lot of regular customers. People are happy to get back when they are pleased and it tastes good for them’, says franchisee.

However, we should not underestimate the value of business model and brand recognition. After all the guests who visit Oleksii’s coffee shop are coming not because of familiar barista but because of AROMA KAVA brand.

‘Due to buying a franchise we managed to minimize the costs attached to new businesses. We have not made those mistakes that we would have done if we had tested this business with new products by ourselves. Representatives from AROMA KAVA explained us how we should approach customer service and what staff requirements should be. Thanks to that we set on path quite fast and evaded losses’, - says Oleksii.

Besides, it helps a lot when you have trusted suppliers and smooth-running goods delivery, with nice bonuses and flexible terms and conditions.

For this reason, Oleksii is quite open to an idea to start one more coffee shop on Pozniaky district to establish and monitor all processes properly.

It is a hard time to any business these days. That is why, it is important to weigh all pros and cons when you decide to open a location. Although there is, a twinge of intuition in business when you feel it will work out and you see the reasons why. The more calculations you do the more conservative you approach some of things. This is the reason why you do not run even the minimum risk that could take your business to the top.
